WAITROSE CAR PARK RESURFACING

We were tasked with resurfacing the 5,910m² area of car park with our civils teams installing the addition of 159lm of new kerbing, 300m of new aco drainage channels and gulleys, 77 new bollards for customer safety and walkways and fresh thermoplastic line marking. The car park houses over 200 vehicles and an additional 17 disabled and parent & child parking bays and 4 EV charging bays.

We were proud to be appointed by Waitrose as the surfacing contractor of choice for the refurbishment of their busy South Harrow store car park. The project involved the resurfacing of a 5,910m² area, as well as the installation of new kerbing, drainage channels, bollards and fresh thermoplastic line marking to improve the overall safety and functionality of the parking facility.

By implementing a low-carbon asphalt solution we successfully reduced carbon emissions by 3,540kgCO₂e, delivering a sustainable and environmentally responsible upgrade to the car park.

Scope of Work

The refurbishment project required:

5,910m² of resurfacing using a low-carbon asphalt solution
159 linear meters of new kerbing for improved structural integrity
300 meters of new ACO drainage channels and gullies for enhanced water management
77 new bollards to improve pedestrian safety and define walkways
Fresh thermoplastic line marking to create clear and durable parking bays
Designated spaces for over 200 vehicles, including 17 disabled & parent & child bays and 4 EV charging bays

Challenges & Solutions
Operating in a Live Environment

As a high-traffic retail store the South Harrow Waitrose remained open throughout the project. To minimise disruption, we:

  • Phased the works strategically, ensuring that no more than a quarter of the car park was closed at any time

  • Scheduled resurfacing outside store operating hours and over weekends to maintain access

  • Ensured key parking bays remained available ensuring continued accessibility for customers, especially those with disabilities or young children

Weather Conditions

Weather posed an additional challenge, requiring flexible planning and adaptive scheduling to ensure work remained on track without compromising quality.

Sustainability Achievements

Through collaboration with our supply chain partners we were able to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the project. The low-carbon asphalt solution used in the resurfacing process delivered a carbon saving of 3,540kgCO₂e the equivalent of planting over 140 trees.

Successful Completion

Thanks to careful planning, execution and sustainability-focused solutions the Waitrose South Harrow car park refurbishment was completed efficiently and with minimal impact on customers. The newly resurfaced car park now offers enhanced safety, improved drainage and clearer navigation, ensuring a seamless shopping experience for all visitors.
