ECOCycle® - BuildING new from old

RECYCLING CONSTRUCTION DEMOLITION MATERIALS INTO NEW CONSTRUCTION SOLUTIONS THROUGH ECOCYCLE®

Billions of tonnes of construction demolition materials (CDM) are generated worldwide each year. As part of our commitment to minimise the consumption of natural resources and drive circular construction at scale across the UK, we're introducing ECOCycle® - an endorsement label has been created to symbolise that a product contains between 10% and 100% recycled construction demolition materials (CDM).

Independently verified, the ECOCycle® marking makes it easy to identify products containing CDM. This provides customers the assurance that they are contributing towards a more circular economy, with no compromise on quality.

WHY ECOCYCLE®?

We only have one planet, and its natural resources are finite. It’s estimated that the world will build the equivalent of New York City every month for the next 40 years. So it’s essential to respect our planet’s limits while we build to improve living standards for all.

Together with our parent company Holcim, a global leader in innovative and sustainable building solutions, we aim to build new from the old, decoupling economic growth from the use of resources.

We believe a global circular economy can significantly reduce the materials we extract and use, making human activity compatible with the safe limits of the planet, minimising waste and maximising the value extracted from resources.

As all ECOCycle® labels are verified with ISO 14021 standard, the contribution we’re making to accelerate the shift to a circular economy is fully verified and validated to the highest standard.

The ECOCycle® endorsement is being used for approximately 50 sites across our asphalt and surfacing, aggregates, and readymix concrete portfolios. ECOCycle® is a powerful symbol of our ambition to transform construction and demolition materials into new, high-quality building solutions. By recycling materials from old structures into new ones, we’re closing the loop and building new from old.

Construction and demolition MATERIALS

All products with the ECOCycle® label contain 10% to 100% construction demolition materials, created via the efficient distribution, processing, grinding and recycling of CDM into new building solutions, with no compromise on performance.

In the UK, Holcim recycled from 1.2m tonnes to 3m tonnes in 2025. By reusing these materials in the production of building materials, we can:

Close the loop in construction to build new from old
Reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill
Reduce our dependence on virgin raw material

Nationwide coverage with verifications that matter

Over 30 of our asphalt plants, covering mainstream, Express asphalt and our mobile plant operations are independently verified to ISO 14021 specifications. This accreditation identifies that these plants can produce asphalt containing at least 10% recycled construction demolition materials.

Aggregates with ECOCycle® inside

Pushing the circularity ambition

Aggregates with ECOCycle® recycled construction demolition materials inside are driving circular construction across metropolitan areas and beyond. Our range of circular aggregates contains up to 100% construction demolition materials for use from roads to foundations.

We offer ECOCycle® products from our recycling hubs in London, Midlands, South West and at the Land Recovery recycling hubs in Stoke on Trent.

ECOCycle® in Readymix Concrete

What we offer

Within our Readymix division, ECOCycle® is being integrated across 8 products from 5 plants located in London and the Midlands. These products are manufactured with materials sourced from recycled construction and demolition waste, ensuring high performance while reducing the need for virgin raw materials. Our Readymix products with ECOCycle® maintain the same high performance and reliability as our traditional products, offering a solution that’s both sustainable and robust.
